Bilbao,

Basque Country

When we moved to Spain in August 2022, we came with high expectations for what the country had in store for us, and it still blew us away!

We quickly fell in love with the landscape, food, cultures, and lifestyle and can’t wait to share elements of that with all of you.

When we were looking for a place to celebrate a wedding in Spain, we wanted to find a place that many people haven’t explored but would appreciate nonetheless!

From our eyes

We have started making a map with all of our favourite things in the area and will continue to add to it up until our wedding day!

Basque Country

More than just amazing cheesecake.

The Basque Country is one of Europe’s oldest and strongest cultures. It encompasses the region located in northern Spain, on the Bay of Biscay at the western end of the Pyrenees mountain range, right between southern France and Spain.

Their culture and origins are distinctive from that of the rest of Spain in many ways.

Weather

July is warm, mixing the Spanish sun, coastal breeze, and a bit of rain.

On average, it’s 26°C in the day and goes down to 15°C in the evenings.

The ocean will be refreshingly swimmable at 21°C (70°F)

The Food

Spaniards love their food, but the Basque take it to another level.

Known as one of the best culinary destinations in all of Europe, bring your stretchiest pants because you will want to try everything. Seriously, everything!

This area of Spain is particularly famous for its seafood and pintxos, small bites similar to tapas.

Bilbao

Bilbao is the largest city in the North of Spain and its an up-and-coming cultural hub.

Once a quite rough port city, it’s now a destination of its own. Real Spanish people keep telling us its a must see! We think its a city for everyone with the Guggenheim museum, famous for its architecture and contemporary art collection, the beautiful rugged coast and nearby mountains, great food, and friendly people! It’s also a great jump off point to explore lots of other places in Spain or France.

While we’ve only visited for a short time ourselves, we hope to spend more time there before the wedding and compile a list of top things for you all to do!

San Sebastian

A short 1 hour bus away from Bilbao will take you to San Sebastian, one of the most exciting tourist destinations in Spain.
